New Year's Eve in Perugia.
This year me, my parents and my cousin L. decided to spend New Year's Eve in Perugia, the capital city of the region of Umbria in central Italy.
The history of this city goes back to the Etruscan period, with written records that go back to at least the third century BC. Perugia is also a well-known cultural and artistic centre; it hosts many different universities, and well as many annual festivals and events. It was also the hometown of the famous painter Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, who then became the teacher of Raphael, one of the greatest Renaissance artists.
Our stay was brief, so we didn't have time to see everything in the city, but we had a nice time walking around and enjoying the festive atmosphere. I also went ice-skating with my cousin and we had tons of fun. After eating "pinsa" for dinner (which is a local dish similar to pizza), we waited for midnight in the main square, "Piazza IV Novembre", where different groups were playing music. We drank sparkling wine and ate chocolate as people were dancing and drinking around us and we all watched the fireworks with big smiles on our faces.
I'm glad to have started 2020 on a happy note and I'm grateful for the people who shared that happiness with me. Happy New Year everyone!
